Elixr Coffee

from $12.50

Elixr Coffee is a Pennsylvania based coffee roaster specializing in lighter-roasted unique and exquisite coffees. While I spent a chunk of time in Philly, Elixr quickly became my go-to coffee option. I found that there blends were perfect for both fall and winter options. There’s a certain overall body and just homely comfort in their taste profile. Honestly I can’t get enough, so as always, I over indulge with my ratio. If you are like me, you compound the concentration of the flavor profile, with 30g of coffee to 250g of water for a most ‘dense’ serving of robust coffee flavors possible (within reason).

All note descriptions below are indicative of the following particulars of brew setup; fine grind of 30 grams of coffee to 250g water (unless noted otherwise). I’ve found this to be the optimal ratio for high concentrated ‘punch’ of all the notes in their fullness.

18 - Lunar Lander Seasonal
(open grind ie less fine)
Bright and juicy sentiment with the fruit punch stepping forward. The clementine keeps the profile from getting too sweet while also adding a subtle grace note of tartness. The cherry smooths everything together for a rich and smooth body that is very ‘delicious’. Great summer coffee option for all times of day.

Weekender
When I’m looking for a daily brew option for the morning with chocolate notes, this is my personal pick. There’s a certain unique richness that results from the chocolate being specifically ‘dark’ chocolate. The pecan brings a very subtle nutty under tone that pairs perfectly with the molasses. Kinda holds you like a cup of hot chocolate on a brisk foggy morning lol. The flavor profile comes across as definitely a combined yield of the notes themselves vs any excess sweetness or bitterness taking the spotlight. You can very much taste the notes distinguishably.

Treehouse
You know how amazing Fruity Loops cereal's milk tastes at the very end of the bowl? The way these notes play together gives me the same sensibility lol. The notes have a certain balance that remains very smooth - not too sweet and not too bitter. I'm generally a bit weary of the combination that happens from chocolate and caramel, but with the pink berry added in, it keeps the profile more lively vs what can often times result in a bit of a muted taste. Solid option for brisk mornings where you need a more casual and more graceful transition into your day. No notes overtly punch.

Finca Las Brumas
This is a refreshingly smooth light option. The almond does a great job of toning down the chocolate to allow for the sparkling citrus notes to still have their nice/subtle after taste. The cane sugar keeps the profile leant mildly sweet and far from acidic. Great daily option if you want a semblance of brightness without too much gut heft. Definitely has a tea-like profile to how it's notes play together. Good for mornings where you wanna stay light, also good for evenings where you don't wanna get too full on coffee.

Las Mercedes (not pictured)
The wildflower honey note steps 'very' forward in this blend, keeping the acidity of the strawberry subdued as more of after taste vs overt sweetness, while the Oolong muscles in for a headlock to the body of notes. Overall the profile is very bright and crisp with a subtle tart twang stepping further forward in the after taste as the coffee cools. Great mid-day coffee 'treat' option in either hot or cold.

"Welcoming back for a beautiful coffee from an amazing producer and friend Lucia Ortiz! Finca Las Mercedes is a former Cup of Excellence winning farm, from which we have the pleasure of buying at Elixr since 2011. This particular lot's seeds actually came via Guatemala from an equally famed farm "finca El Socorro" (which some may remember from our release of the maracaturra last year. The beans themselves are incredibly large because they are a hybrid from the maragogype variety. Even though this is a natural processed coffee, it cups incredibly clean and sweet with notes of wildflower honey, oolong tea, starfruit, and strawberry."
